May 2015
I am in denial that on Monday it will be June second already. I blink and it's the end of the month and time to send another newsletter!
This weekend I'll be attending the Summer Show of TNNA (The National NeedleArts Association). I like to leave with my workspace tidy, and with my email inbox at zero. This week, I wrote up a little about my inbox zero philosophy.
One of my favourite features of WordPress is the ability to schedule posts. Sometimes however something goes wrong and they aren't posted when you asked. I looked into the reasons why in when your scheduled post neglects to check its watch.
There were many links of interest this month, I couldn't even begin to summarize them here.
There were fewer announcements of security issues related to XSS for WordPress this month. This time issues were found in JetPack and the newest default WordPress theme, TwentyFifteen. WordPress 4.2.2 was also released to address the bugs. To learn more, please see JetPack and TwentyFifteen Vulnerable to DOM-based XSS and WordPress 4.2.2 Security and Maintenance Release. The big news was that Automattic purchased WooThemes and WooCommerce was updated to 2.9.3 to address a XSS vulnerability. A guide to Understanding WordPress Plugin Vulnerabilities, from the great folks at Sucuri is still helpful. Several years ago I explained a bit about the whys of software updates. Yes, you should care about this even if your site is small.
Any new tech issues or questions this month? Please let me know, I'd be happy to help.
If you are overwhelmed by this monthly newsletter, there's a link at the bottom to unsubscribe. There are other ways to keep informed; the archive is accessible (there's a link at my site) and I also share the newsletter on Facebook and Twitter.
keep well,
